Membership Requirements
Since its founding in 1989, new members needed to prove that in the past 12 months they had promoted 60 shows with 5 in clubs, 5 in theatres and 5 in arenas.
The reasoning was that these promoters were invested in the business from top to bottom.
Today, many passionate, hard-working promoters invest heavily but may not fit those requirements because the landscape has changed. Some focus on clubs and theatres, festivals, fairs, or casinos rather than the exact mix of clubs, theatres, and arenas.
By the 2027 meeting Iโd like to have something to vote on in person. We need 70 percent agreement. Below is a discussion board to offer suggestions and even bicker.
My starting suggestion is either $1 million in gross ticket sales per year or an equivalent percentage paid to ASCAP that ASCAP can audit.
We can always change it if itโs wrong but Iโm wary of opening the floodgates. Is that number too low? Does it raise the bar so high that nobody can apply? Is there another way?
